Jaguar XJ-SC Cabriolet – 1982 to 1988
This is absolutely the greatest car I have ever driven. I love the way it handles, and don't even mind the stock suspension, which by all accounts is quite soft. The interior is small, but then so am I at five foot three and half inches tall, weighing pounds.
My six foot six inch tall friend couldn't even get in the car. One has to learn to duck their head when getting in the car, or get used to lumps on the skull, ha ha ha. The XJS has a very private and small cabin, an important feature for a female driver like myself. It is not easy to view the driver from certain angles, and if there is a driver in another vehicle, especially a truck, he is not able to see my face, nor can I see his if he is driving on the right hand side of me.
At first I had a problem with the funny headlights, but now that I am used to them, I am not going to change them for the quad set. Review Date: 30th December, It's a super car. More than fast enough - mph comes up quite quickly, and more is availble if you are determined enough! I've seen mph and it was still accelerating. Handling is beautifully balanced, and it doesn't betray it's weight, even on a race track.
The ride, though, is a lot less comfortable than older Jags. It's very comfortable, though the back seats are useless - more so on the later cars which have 'fatter' seats! Sadly, the number of seemingly incurable faults is driving me mad. I have no idea what to replace it with. The XJ-S is a superb design - but even when maintained 'regardless of cost' they still suffer unreliability.
And still the air conditioning is broken Review Date: 24th March, Produced for over twenty years with minimal changes, the XJS was a huge hit for Jaguar. Offering unique and seductive styling, powerful engines, and the legendary Jaguar heritage, over k rolled off the production line, not bad for a very expensive car. The vast majority of the cars were coupes, but a portion were made into convertibles, but the production numbers were unknown, which adds to the cool Jaguar mystique.
This Stunning XJS is finished in blue over a beige leather interior, this luxurious sports car shows well. It is powered by its impressive V12 paired with an automatic transmission. This car has been owned the last 9 years by a Jaguar enthusiast.Cipele novi sad
The car has new tires, shocks, suspension, new headliner and all filters changed. We also welcome third party inspections when necessary. Although we try to do our very best to be accurate in our description writing we are human and do make mistakes.

After all, motorways were now a thing, and the increasing popularity of cross-channel ferries meant people were more likely to take their cars across to Europe. The result? A quick if not sporting four-seater with wonderfully opulent leather seats and enough wood to build a fort.
The move away from the open-top sports car dynamics that made the E-Type so popular was a result of Jaguar attempting to predict 80s trends and head off competition from Germany. Byit was the HE high-efficiency version of the V12, while later cars were available with the same engine bored out to 6. A straight-six was also available. In the form reviewed here, the V12 Jaguar XJ-S produced hp that, in road tests at the time, was found to accelerate to 60mph in 7.
The benchmark 62mph comes in less than 7. That was supercar performance back then. Manuals are rare only available in the early days as the gearboxes were left over from the E-Typeand being an automatic suits the XJ-S. The first thing you notice when maneuvering is how exceptionally light its steering is.
This is perhaps an American influence, and arguably makes sense in a car obviously designed to make life easy for the driver. Steering aside, the XJ-S is a lovely car to drive. This is where things start to go wrong. Even when it was new, the XJ-S had a reputation for unreliability. That brings us onto the subject of using an XJ-S as a daily driver. You certainly could use it every day. But should you use an XJ-S every day?
A few years ago, the unloved XJ-S could be picked up for a three-figure sum. We often advise buying the best example of a classic car you can find, but this is especially true for the XJ-S. Buy cheap and it could be a whole world of hassle. As per most British cars of that age, rust can be an XJ-S killer.
If you get to the stage of looking at one with a view to buying it, give it a thorough look all over. Worn bushes are a common, and it might be easier to factor in the cost of replacing them, rather than trying to find an XJ-S that drives perfectly.
But it is the car from recent Retro Road Rests that got this particular reviewer searching the classifieds more than any other. American health and safety legislation meant convertibles were expected to be banned, so it was 13 years into the life of the XJ-S before Jaguar introduced a soft-top version. Although aftermarket conversions were available earlier, the official XJ-S convertible arrived in View full price and specs.

Unfortunately, even Jaguar Heritage has stated that they are not aware of any data on the pre TWR cars. This is consistent with many estimates which we have seen on Jaguar forums during our research. It was widely believed that only a small portion of the several hundred cars produced included the 6. Since publising this information guide, we have been contacted by several engineers who worked in the TWR factory and have been able to share with us some of their intricate knowledge.
Importantly, one of those engineers has provided a table confirming 39 vehicles that received the 6. A copy of this table is provided in Section 6 of this guide - "engine and gearbox numbers".

We have found that many Jaguar factory colours were used as the primary upper body colour on most cars presumably un-altered from their original paint.
A common trait of the early TWR cars is their two tone bodywork. In addition to the lower body contrasting colour, sometimes albeit rarely the 'Speedline' wheels were also matched to the lower body colour. However, TWR also made no reference to the secondary colour applied to the lower half of the vehicle unless you have access to the original order documentation.
If you have any further information on early TWR paint colours, please contact us or comment below so we can update this section. That aside, we do loosely assume that a large portion of TWR cars would have been models from the 84 - 88 production year range. We have not been able to verify this, and this was perhaps something that was done on later models, rather than on the early TWR cars. We have been advised of a couple of interesting points by one of our members with respect to the TWR options:.
If anyone has further information or can clarify the outstanding codes, that could be greatly appreciated please contact us or comment below :. Further confirmation of the originality of a TWR vehicle may be available by looking at the service books for the car.

In fact from to 4th April it underwent various transformations, including a complete facelift towards the final years.
These days collectively these Jaguar cars are referred to by the generic XJS. However while it works fine when spoken, when written down it can cause some confusion.
The reason is that the model was badged the XJ-S at the time of its lauch in September This was to denote that it was the Sport model of the XJ range.
Regrettably the XJ-S was, for the frist 7 years, only availabe as a Coupe. The popular Jaguar E-type, which it had replaced had been avaialbe in both Convertibles and Coupes models. No doubt there was particular concern that this would include California. Ironically any concerns that there was to be a US ban on Convertibles turned out to be unfounded.
